Tips on CV

You possibly might be the best person for the job, but if your CV is not up to it, I'm afraid you stand a little or no chance. Your CV is your representative. It is your first and the best chance to create the right impression, and probably the only way for you to let your prospective employers know how good you are for the job at hand. Therefore, the importance of a winning CV can never be over emphasized.

Writing your CV...

There are two types of CV:

i. Specific CV

ii. Speculative CV

A CV is specific, if you know the exact position you are applying for, while a speculative CV is a CV you prepared without having an advertised postion readily. In another words, it is a generalized CV.

Building a speculative CV, it is important to write a short note explaining the kind of positions that may interest you.

The following tips will help

Your CV must be well and cohesively structured

Ensure that you write about your achievements. Don't write about things you are not so good at - it might count against you.

Endeavour not to use the same CV for every job you apply for. Edit and refine the way it looks to suit the type of job you are applying for.

Check for common grammatical errors and spellings

Be concise.  You don't  have to leave things out, but it is very important for you to be brief and straight to the point. If possible, restrict it to not more than two pages.

Ensure your CV is easy to read and professional looking. Choose your words. Make them suiting but brief.

Avoid elaborate designs and artistic typesettings.

Never submit a photocopied CV (If you are required to submit or send hard copy).

On a final note, do not be disillusioned that once your CV has adhered to the winning rules, then its success is inevitable, even at the first go. It is down to the individuals who read it to judge what is valuable to them. Also, as with most stages of getting a job, there is some luck involved. Therefore, don't be disappointed if your CV doesn't win you that job at first. Just keep at it. We wish you Goodluck, even as you follow our tips and advice.
